What Odoo is — and what it solves (or doesn't) in Brazil.
A straight guide for anyone considering an ERP change: how Odoo works, the difference between Community and Enterprise, what it really costs and where it needs Brazilian localization to operate.
One system instead of six
Odoo is an open source ERP that brings sales, inventory, purchasing, production, finance, HR and website together in a single database. In practice: the sales order the sales team closes is the same record that reserves stock, generates the invoice and lands in accounts receivable. No spreadsheet in between and no typing the same information twice.
Single database
Every area reads and writes in the same place. What changes in one appears in the other at the same instant, with no integration to maintain.
Open source
The source code is public and auditable. You can adapt the system to your operation instead of adapting the operation to the system — and you are not locked into a single vendor.
Modular
Start with what hurts now and turn on the rest later. Each app comes in without redeploying what is already running.
In the cloud or on your server
It runs in the browser and on the phone, hosted by Odoo, by us or on your own infrastructure. The choice is yours, and it can change later.
What standard Odoo does not cover in Brazil
Odoo is Belgian. The version you see in the international demo does not issue NF-e, does not generate SPED and does not talk to your bank. That is not a defect: it is what the Brazilian localization has to solve — and it is exactly where most projects get stuck.
See Edoo's fiscal appsFiscal document issuance
NF-e, NFC-e, CT-e and MDF-e require a digital certificate, communication with SEFAZ, contingency handling, cancellation, correction letters and voiding.
NFS-e by municipality
Each city government has its own layout. The national standard has advanced, but thousands of cities still operate on their own format.
Taxation per transaction
ICMS, ICMS-ST, DIFAL, IPI, PIS, COFINS, CFOP and CST change by product, by state and by customer type. None of this exists in a standard ERP.
SPED and ancillary tax obligations
EFD ICMS/IPI, EFD Contribuições, ECD, ECF and Reinf have to come from the same data that generated the invoice, not from a parallel spreadsheet.
Bank slip (boleto) and CNAB
Registering the bank slip with the bank, remittance, return and automatic settlement of the receivable — with each institution's layout.
Tax reform
IBS and CBS enter a transition regime. Whoever maintains their own code adapts at the pace of the technical notes; whoever depends on third parties waits.
Community or Enterprise?
They are the same technology. Enterprise adds apps, a mobile interface, support from Odoo itself and the version upgrade service. The right answer depends on what your operation actually uses — not on the size of the budget.

Five steps to evaluate without spending anything
You can arrive well informed at the first conversation with any partner, including us. This is the path we recommend to anyone starting to look at Odoo.
Write down what hurts today
List the five problems that cost the most time or money in your operation. A good system is the one that solves those five, not the one with the most screens.
Test standard Odoo
Odoo offers a free online demo. Browse sales, inventory and finance to understand the logic of the system before talking about price.
Read about the fiscal side
That is where Brazilian projects slip. Our documentation explains how issuance works in Odoo and what each module covers.
Add up the total cost
License, hosting, implementation, data migration, training and support. A proposal that shows only the license hides most of the bill.
Talk to the people who do the implementation
Ask to talk to the technical team, not only to sales. Ask who maintains the fiscal modules and what happens when SEFAZ changes a rule.

We do a free 30-minute diagnosis and tell you frankly whether Odoo is the right path for your company.

What people ask before starting
Is Odoo suitable for a small company?
It is, as long as the implementation is proportional. A company with 5 to 10 users goes live with sales, inventory, finance and fiscal issuance in a few weeks. The common mistake is contracting a multinational scope for a lean operation and stalling the project halfway.
How long does the implementation take?
From 6 to 12 weeks in most small and medium company projects, from diagnosis to go-live. Operations with manufacturing, multiple CNPJs or integrations with legacy systems usually take 3 to 5 months.
Do I need a programmer on the team?
Not to operate it. Most of the configuration is done through the interface, and Odoo Studio lets you create fields and screens without code. Deeper customizations and the fiscal modules stay with the partner.
How does Odoo compare to a Brazilian ERP?
Odoo usually wins on flexibility, license cost, interface and hosting freedom. Brazilian ERPs arrive with the fiscal side ready out of the box — which is exactly the gap that Edoo's modules fill. Weighing both ends, the math generally comes out in Odoo's favor over five years.
Does my data from the current system come along?
Yes. We migrate records, balances and history with our own tool, and checking against the source system is part of the scope. This also applies to anyone on an old version of Odoo itself.
What if I already use Odoo with another partner?
Edoo's fiscal apps can be installed in Odoo environments from any partner or internal team. We also take over projects that are already implemented, with or without a change of vendor.
Still unsure whether Odoo is for you?
A 30-minute conversation with the people who do the implementation, not with a salesperson. You leave with a diagnosis of what Odoo solves in your company and what it does not.
